Beginning

Transcendence is a collective of Bandwidth, Free Black Space, and Good Books for Good People. Our idea is to share information and topics of discussion on books, articles and ideas relating to China, India, Africa. We will cover art, politics, history, poetry, literature and general everyday news. Some of it will seem insignificant because much of our lives appears this way though it is not. As a first post, attached is a link to a New York Times article on the environment and steel in China.

One benefit of Taiji is its ability to provide you with a sense of circular energy and how, given the physical structure of the body, that circular energy can be used to direct ones movements. My meditation here is on how Taiji helps one transcend linear thinking through practice. Linear thinking is an abstract concept; and in that way is in operation in countless activities. For many of us, metaphorically walking in a straight line represents a linear movement. However, how our physical structure generates that energy may not be. The goal here is to not give answers, which too is an expression of the linear with an answer representing some final destination. It is racial cliche to talk about the Black Family. The romantic relationships turned to responsibility turn to battleground and cage. No doubt there are the beautiful women and men who have developed and nurtured "healthy" relationships for many years and serve as role models for us all, but I think the majority of them stay away from public professions of their love. They know the humility a serious relationship with one person produces. To love someone is to gain sense of who you truly are in both your beauty and ugliness. In your beauty you find your power and strength to assist, aid, endure, and promote. In your ugliness you learn that the world is bigger even than your flaws, shortcomings, and periods of hopelessness. In the Chinese Book of Wisdom the I-Ching hexegram #37 corresponds to household. Thanksgiving

SoundTrack Don Pullen's "The Eagle Staff is First" Thanksgiving has always been one of the most difficult holidays for me. The first stages of my education like most Americans were full of an indoctrination that still sticks with me to this day. Many of those days I have long forgotten. They were full of pictures of pilgrims, ships and the talk of religious freedom. My imagination wondered what it would be like to have lived in such a great time-the harsh conditions and ultimately the gifts from the Native Americans. Years later, when I studied history and read independently outside of school, I realized I rarely ran into folks with Native American ancestry (outside of those blacks I know who said they got Indian in them) and the hypocrisy was in plain view.
